[SOLVED] Drone’s WIFI Won’t Connect To Mobile Phone & Controller

You’re prepping your drone to fly with your mobile phone, but for some reason, your drone’s WIFI won’t seem to connect to your mobile device. Frustrating huh? I tried a bunch of “solutions,” here’s what worked for me.

If your drone’s WIFI does not connect to your mobile phone, try resetting your drones WIFI. Do this on the DJI by holding down the power button for 9 seconds until you hear three beeps. The WIFI should then reset, then the drone’s two front lights will turn green. Now try to reconnect with your phone again.

Resetting your drones WIFI should work for most drones. However, there are many other reasons that could be causing this connection issue. Here’s a list of general troubleshooting tips you can try that are pretty quick and will work for most drone types.

I recommend going through these before trying anything else.

Drone’s WIFI Connection Troubleshooting Tips To Try First:

Usually, when your drone’s WIFI connection won’t connect, it’s relatively simple to figure out what happened because all these connection issues are so closely related. Here are some of the most common troubleshooting tips which should get your connection issue sorted ASAP.

  • Delete and reinstall the drone’s app on your phone. Often times when your mobile phone updates it could affect your apps permissions.
  • Try to connect with a different phone. This is a quick way to tell if it’s a problem with your drone or your phone.
  • Try to use an Ipad. I’ve read of cases where an Ipad might pick up higher-end WIFI frequencies compared to your mobile phone. If this works, then chances are your phone doesn’t support the drones WIFI frequency.
  • You can try to reset your drones WIFI. If all of the above fails, it could be a problem with the drones WIFI. The best first step is to try and reset it. I’ve laid out details on this in the rest of the article.
  • Bypass the WIFI by connecting your phone to the controller with the provided USB. If possible, some drones don’t let you connect your mobile phone to the controller with a USB. But if you have that option, try it!
  • Check if your drones WIFI disconnect during a hard landing. During hard landings, your drones WIFI could have disconnected. I’ve seen this issue with the ProMark p70 drone, where the camera that contains the WIFI would unplug.

If these general tips didn’t work, the problem is probably a common drone specific connection issue because of faulty manufacturing or something. I’ve compiled a list of all the most popular connection issues that I could find on the web. Keep reading!

DJI Spark Drone

Issue: Drone Wifi connects to the controller but not to the smartphone.

When having this issue you might see the drone’s controller WIFI pop up in your smartphone WIFI connection settings, however, the actual drone’s WIFI will be nowhere to been seen. If this sounds familiar, then try to go through these steps to get the drones WIFI to pop back up on your phone.

  1. The first step is to open the DJI GO app.
  2. Tap on the “Need Help” text at the bottom left of the app home screen to the left of “Enter Device.”
  3. Once you tap, a new screen will open and it will show you how to connect your phone to the drones WIFI.
  4. Tap on the blue button below that says “reset aircraft wifi settings.”
  5. The app will then give you four steps on how to reset the drones WIFI. Follow those steps.
  6. Now you should be able to jump back into your phone’s WIFI settings, and the drone should appear.

If you can’t find the four steps on how to reset the drones WIFI settings, I’ll lay them out for you here.

Here’s how to reset the DJI’s WIFI settings:

  1. First, you need to push and hold the power button for 9 seconds. You’ll know you did it right when you hear a beep three times.
  2. The drone will go through it’s resetting process. It will switch to mobile device control, and it will change it’s frequency to 2.4GHz.
  3. Once your drone starts to flash its front lights green, that means that the drones WIFI has properly reset.
  4. Open up your mobile WIFI settings and the name of your drone should now appear.

ProMark p70 Drone

Issue: Drone Wifi connects to the controller but not to the smartphone.

On your phone in the WIFI settings, it doesn’t show any WIFI device. So there’s nothing to even try to connect to.

The wifi connection comes from inside of the camera. If the camera is lit up red then it means you have a bad camera. There are a few ways you can fix this.

Solution 01: The camera could have become disconnected during landing. This is the best-case scenario because all you’ll need to do is plug it in again.

  • To fix, start by taking off the drone’s camera.
  • Once you’ve done that, there are two plug connections that are white.
  • Make sure they are plugged in.
  • If they are disconnected, plug them in and try to connect to your drone’s wifi again.

Solution 02: If that doesn’t work, then you will need to get a new camera for your ProMark p70 drone. Promark is known to have brilliant customer service, so give them a call and they might send you a new camera for free. If not, they can at least point you in the right direction on how to get one.

If you want to give them a call, their customer service number is 855-782-3776.

Parrot Anafi Drone

Issue: The drone won’t connect to the mobile phone or the controller.

Solution 01: The first thing you should try is resetting Anafi’s wifi. This process won’t reset your drone back to factory settings, but it will make sure it’s fully updated. You can do that by following the steps below.

  1. First, turn on your drone.
  2. Push and hold the power button for 8 seconds. The red lights will begin turning on one after another. Once all 4 lights are on, it’s safe to release the button.
  3. The drone WIFI will then reboot. While rebooting, it will also create a TXT file on the microSD which will have the drones WIFI password.

If that doesn’t work, there’s another fix that you can try.

Solution 02: This solution was published by Parrot themselves. Just make sure you back up any media. This solution will permanently all files including media on FreeFlight 6 that has not been backed up. So make sure you backup anything you want to keep!

  1. Let’s jump right into the second Anafi connection solution.
  2. First, you’ll need to turn off your drone, close your Skycontroller and make disconnect the controller from you mobile phone.
  3. Next, you’ll need to reboot your phone and switch it to flight mode. Make sure Bluetooth and WIFI are turned off.
  4. Now you’ll need to set up your drone just how you usually do before a flight.
  5. But this time use a different cable when you connect the Skycontroller 3 into your mobile device.
  6. If the FreeFlight 6 app automatically launches once the above has been done, it means that connection between your mobile device FreeFlight 6 app and Skycontroller 3 has been reestablished.
  7. If using a different cable fails, try deleting the FreeFlight 6 app and reinstalling it again. An update on your phone could have messed with the app’s permissions. IMPORTANT, this step will delete all media that you have that’s not backed up.

If it still doesn’t work after trying the above steps, try using a different mobile phone or even an Ipad. If nothing, the issue probably lays a bit deeper. I’d recommend contacting support as this probably means that your Skycontroller 3 is damaged.
